Daily Life (and Death!) in Ancient Rome

I think we’ve had the “Never-Ending Day of School” today! Though I am completely worn out, I think we accomplished a lot. We spent the majority of the time studying about the daily life of Ancient Romans. I am having the older two taking notes as I read while Isabelle is filling […]

Dress the Roman Soldier

This past week we started our Ancient Rome study.  My hopes were to get through our lessons in three weeks.  In order to do this we needed to be focused…which we haven’t been this week.  It’s been one of those wonky weeks…you know what I’m talking about! lol!!  No worries though, we’ll just add another […]

Seriously folks, I’m going to have to confess something. I am soooooo over studying about Ancient Greece and we’ve only hit the tip of the iceberg…bleh! I think we will take a few review days and then move on…before I croak. We’ve covered things well and even dug in a little deeper […]

Today we read a neat book titled Archimedes Takes a Bath by Joan M. Lexau.
We’ve heard the stories about Archimedes, but this one had a different story line than the others.  In this book, a young slave boy, Xanthias, was given the job of making Archimedes eat and bathe.  Apparently, Archimedes was not in favor […]

The Odyssey in Prose

I was thrilled to find this online version of Homer’s The Odyssey in a prose form.  I think this version will be much easier on the little listening ears.  This site offers a simple version and then one that is more detailed.  We are reading the latter.  Seriously, it has taken me a whole lifetime […]

I Want a Garden Like This!

The approach to the Garden sloped like a hillside and the several parts of the structure rose from one another tier on tier… On all this, the earth had been piled… and was thickly planted with trees of every kind that, by their great size and other charm, gave pleasure to the beholder… The […]

Carthage

The Storm, Book I The Aeneid

Today, we read about the city of Carthage. Though no one really knows who the first people to settle at Carthage were, Virgil tells about the beginnings of the city in his story, The Aeneid. I read a very shortened version to the younger kids today, but […]

You Stink Like a Man From Tyre!

We’re studying the Phoenicians right now in history and a few days ago we talked about how these people were known for their glass making and glass blowing. The glass they made was both beautiful and expensive.

The Phoenicians also made beautiful purple dye out of….SNAILS! Ack!! These snails were gathered […]

Face Behind the Blog Photo
I am a mom who has been blessed with the opportunity to educate my children at home. Most days are great...some days though, you might just catch me in a corner rocking back and forth with my eyes glazed over! Rest assured though that God is teaching them...well us...ok, ok...ME many lessons!!

Gus' Gang

Our family started this small ministry after Gus, our fifth child, died while awaiting a liver/small bowel transplant. We strive to reach out and encourage those families with chronically ill children and families who are grieving the loss of a child.
